Designated as a ministerial public juridic person in 2020 by the Vatican, SJEM reports to the Dicastery for Institutes for Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. As well, SJEM maintains ongoing relationships with the local bishops and archbishops in the various dioceses where sponsored institutions are located. These relationships allow schools to maintain their Catholic identity and live it through the lens of founding congregations, always supporting and fostering the charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet of unifying love.

The Catholic identity of SJEM sponsored institutions is grounded in the Gospels and strengthened through Catholic Social Teaching. With a sense of God made real through the educational endeavor to educate the whole person in faith, learners are formed, nurtured, and challenged to acts of love, of God’s goodness, that promote systemic changes to support the dignity of all of God’s creation. SJEM sponsored institutions offer learners the opportunity to explore who they are in the world, how they see the world, and called to envision an image of the world as God would have it. These are the ultimate elements that shape SJEM’s vision for Catholic identity.

More specifically, Our Catholic identity is imbued with our CSJ values. Based on the Catholic-Christian Tradition and founded to bring about unity through love and service of God and the dear neighbor without distinction, SJEM institutions of learning …
